The lotus is the symbol of prosperity, beauty and fertility. The lotus flower in Hinduism, primarily represents beauty and non – attachment. The lotus arouse from lord Vishnu’s naval in which brahma sat. Brahma, Vishnu, Saraswati and many other god and goddess are associated with lotus.
The symbolism of lotus flower is mentioned in the 5th chapter of the Bhagavad Gita by lord Krishna. Lotus in spite of being in water never gets wet. It is not bothered about its surrounding but it blooms and performs its job and vanishes.
Lord Vishnu represents that force which is responsible for all living and non livings. Its symbolically suggests that all are connected to the ultimate source through an invisible thread but we unfortunately don’t realize it.
Lotus flower is mentioned in Sanskrit as padma, kamala, pundarika and utpala. According to Hinduism, the atman lives in the lotus which lies within the center of the heart. The lotus flower in Hinduism having a deep within your heart and which humans are search in their entire life to achieve moksha.
It is also be noted that many Asian deities are depicted seated on a lotus flower. According to legend, Gautama Buddha was born with the ability to walk and everywhere he stepped, lotus flowers bloomed.
The ultimate aim of each human being is to be the lotus flower – perform the dharma without being attached to the world.
